You Asked, I Answered!
This FAQ Dog Photographer Boston MA page was created to help amazing pet parents like you feel fully prepared and excited for your session. As a Boston-based dog photographer, I know you probably have questions—and I’m here to make the process easy, stress-free, and fun for both you and your pup.

My dog is super energetic and doesn’t sit still. Can we still get good photos?
Absolutely! Most dogs don’t sit still for long, and that’s perfectly fine. I work with their energy – not against it. With years of experience and a few tricks up my sleeve, I capture beautiful moments whether they’re sitting pretty or zooming around the studio.
My dog is a little shy (or nervous around strangers). Will that be a problem?
Not at all. I’ve worked with dogs of all personalities, and my priority is making sure they feel safe and comfortable. I’ll take my time letting them adjust, using gentle approaches and their favorite treats or toys to help them feel at ease.
What if my dog needs to stay on a leash?
No worries! Safety always comes first. Many of the dogs I photograph stay on a leash, and I carefully remove it during the editing process. You’d never know it was there!
Where do the sessions take place?
You can choose anywhere between The Pawtraiture Boutique’s studio in Chelmsford, MA, your own residence, or an outdoor location in Greater Boston, Connecticut, Rhode Island, or New Hampshire. Whether you prefer timeless studio elegance, the comfort of your own home, or natural backdrops, I’ll capture absolutely beautiful photographs for you.
Here are some suggestions for outdoor photo sessions in the Greater Boston MA area
Whenever you are ready, let’s chat.
Can I be in the photos with my dog?
Absolutely! Your bond is something truly special, and capturing that love together makes for stunning portraits. Whether it’s just a few cuddles or a full family session, I would LOVE you to be part of the experience! Dress up, put your favorite makeup (pssst, more contrasty makeup looks BEST in camera, even if it seems to be too much in the mirror). Let’s have some fun!
What should I bring to the session?
Bring anything that makes your pup happy – a beloved toy, a stylish collar, or a special outfit you’d like to see them in the photos.
Your pup’s favorite treats are PARTICULARLY important for a great photo session. Smaller, low-calory chews that can be given to your pup many times without filling up their tummy are the best.
I may have some treats in the studio, but if your pup has food sensitivities or allergies, I count on you to bring the right ones.
If we’re outdoors, I also recommend a leash. And definitely some water (but you already knew that, didn’t you?)
My dog has health issues or is a senior. Should I still book a session?
Yes! In fact, these sessions are incredibly meaningful. Whether your pup is slowing down or facing health challenges, we can create a relaxed, loving experience that captures their soul and spirit in a way you’ll cherish forever.
What happens if my dog has an accident in the studio?
No stress—this is a completely judgment-free zone! It happens more often than you’d think, and I have cleaning supplies ready. Your pup’s comfort is the most important thing.
Can we do a celebration session for my dog’s birthday or adoption anniversary?
Yes! These milestone sessions are some of my favorites. Whether it’s a first birthday, a “Gotcha Day” celebration, or another special moment, we can make it extra fun with props, balloons, or a dog-friendly cake!

…Oh Wait, There’s More!
How long does a session last?
The Pup Star sessions last around 45 minutes. The Iconic Pup sessions are 2 hours. The Legacy Pawtrait and the Pup Plan come with sessions which are either half day or an entire day. Regardless of photo session length, I go at your dog’s pace. If they need breaks, we take them. If they’re full of energy, we roll with it.
Do you offer digital files?
Yes, I do! High-resolution digital images, manually edited to perfection by me, are the main focus of every collection I currently offer.
...What about canvases and albums?
I offer those too! Every collection now includes credit for albums or wall art, if you wish to purchase them. When all the edits are done, I have also included a free complimentary consultation to walk you through everything and help you pick the best photos to match your interior.
How long does editing take?
It depends on how busy I am, but usually it doesn’t take more than several days.
How can I select my images after the session?
We will do that virtually, or at my studio in Chelmsford (around 35 minutes from Downtown Boston MA), whatever works best for you.
How do you deliver the final results from the photo session with my dog?
In JPEG format, 300dpi, with print rights, right after I edit them and you pick your favorites. If you choose to purchase prints or albums, those will be yours as soon as they arrive from the manufacturer.
How far in advance should I book?
I recommend booking at least a few weeks in advance, especially during peak seasons. If you have a specific date in mind—like a birthday or an end-of-life session—reach out as soon as possible. I will do my best to accommodate you and your pup.
My dog is nearing the end of their life. Do you offer last-minute bookings for end-of-life sessions?
Yes. If your time with your pup is limited, please reach out immediately. I will do everything I can to accommodate you on short notice so you can have the memories you deserve.
What if the weather is bad on the day of an outdoor session?
That happens more often than not. We’ll reschedule if needed, or, if you are open and circumstances allow, we can move the session to the studio. The goal is to have a fun and stress-free experience. Every single time.
Do you photograph other pets besides dogs?
While my focus is on dogs, I welcome other family members too! I absolutely LOVE fish, and I am well equipped for closeup aquarium photography.
If you have fish, a cat, bunny, parrot or another pet you’d like photographed, let’s chat!
Do you travel outside of the Greater Boston MA area, CT, RI & NH?
Yes! I am available for travel sessions way beyond New England. If you’re interested in a destination session, let’s chat!
