And Why I am Guilty Too For Not Doing it Ofter Enough as a Dog Dad
Let’s be real – these days our phones are jam-packed with dog photos. From blurry action shots of zoomies to those hilariously weird sleeping positions to hugely overcrowded shots with a ton of distractions (as the one below), we’ve all got thousands of snapshots of our four-legged best friends.
This is a cute iPhone picture. But you have to honestly ask yourself: “Would I put this on my walls?”
To put it simply, a professional dog photoshoot is a whole different universe. It’s not just about taking a picture – it’s about masterfully capturing the very soul of your dog in the most beautiful and artistic way – and make those photos lasts forever.
Imagine this: a stunning, frame-worthy, masterfully captured and edited portrait of your dog mid-leap, tail flying, eyes locked on their favorite ball. There is meticulous attention to every single detail. No gear sticks, pennies or other distracting elements in the photo. Just your dog, looking their absolute best.
That’s the magic of pro dog photography. It’s about skillfully documenting those tiny expressions, that goofy personality – done by an experienced professional who understands dogs; makes them feel comfortable around him, and makes them look like themselves in front of his camera. Add to that some masterful editing, printing by a world-class print shop… Yes, you get the recipe.
Let’s be honest… our dogs aren’t with us nearly long enough. Having high-quality, beautifully lit, perfectly timed portraits means you’ll always have something to hold onto when they’ve left their paw prints on your heart forever.
And I say this as someone who knows the pain of realizing I didn’t take enough photos with my pro equipment. My Golden Retriever, Daisy, was my shadow, my best girl, my constant companion. And even as a photographer—someone who spends every day capturing life’s fleeting moments—I didn’t take nearly enough pictures of her. I thought I had time. But time is never enough. One day, she was here, bounding up to me with that wagging tail, and then suddenly, she wasn’t. Her life, as full and beautiful as it was, passed far too quickly. And now, I’d give anything to have more of those moments frozen in time. I am saying this with tears in my eyes. I loved her so much!
That’s why I do what I do—because I don’t want anyone else to feel that same regret.
Don’t worry about whether your dog will “behave” during the session. Spoiler alert: Almost no dog does! That’s part of the story. Whether they’re a total poser or a ball of chaotic energy, I work with their natural personality to get authentic, joy-filled images that reflect exactly who they are. It’s stress-free, fun, and results in artwork you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
